Osteoarthritis Pain Management

Living actively with arthritis through targeted pain relief and joint preservation strategies.

Stay Active, Stay Mobile

Osteoarthritis (OA) is the most common form of arthritis, occurring when the protective cartilage that cushions the ends of the bones wears down over time. While it cannot be reversed, the symptoms can be effectively managed to maintain a high quality of life and delay the need for surgery. At Trinay Orthopedic Hospital, we focus on comprehensive arthritis care.

Living with OA doesn't mean giving up activity. Learn about our management strategies on our About Us page, or Contact Us for a pain relief plan.

The 4 Pillars of OA Care

Weight Control

Reducing even 5% of body weight can cut knee pain by half.

Offloading

Using braces or special insoles to shift pressure away from worn cartilage.

Clinical Management

At Trinay Orthopedic Hospital, we use a stepped approach to OA pain:

  • Pulsed Therapy: Using anti-inflammatories only during flare-ups to avoid side effects.
  • Viscosupplementation: Injecting lubricating fluid (Hyaluronic Acid) to improve joint gliding.
  • Biological Support: PRP therapy to support healing of slightly damaged tissue.

Activity Modification

Low-impact movements like cycling and swimming are "fertilizer" for your cartilage. They keep the joints lubricated without the impact that worsens wear and tear.

OA Management FAQs

Are the gel injections painful?

We use a local anesthetic spray or needle to numb the skin first. Most patients feel only a slight pressure. The lubrication provided can last for 6 months to a year in many cases.

When is it "too late" for conservative care?

Surgery is recommended when pain persists despite all non-surgical efforts, keeps you awake at night, and significantly limits your ability to perform basic daily activities (Grade 4 OA with bone-on-bone contact).
