Meniscus Injury Treatment

Advanced arthroscopic repair to save your meniscus and protect your knee from arthritis.

Save the Meniscus, Save the Knee

The meniscus is a C-shaped piece of tough, rubbery cartilage that acts as a shock absorber between your shinbone and thighbone. Each knee has two menisci: the medial (inner) and lateral (outer). They play a crucial role in distributing weight and stabilizing the knee joint.

A meniscus tear is one of the most common knee injuries. At Trinay Orthopedic Hospital, our philosophy is "Save the Meniscus." Whenever possible, we use advanced arthroscopic techniques to repair the torn tissue rather than removing it, as this significantly reduces the risk of developing arthritis later in life.

Preserving your knee health is our priority. Find out more on our About Us page, or Contact Us for a consultation.

Symptoms & Causes

A meniscus tear usually happens during sports when the knee is twisted while the foot is planted. However, in older adults, they can happen gradually due to wear and tear.

  • Sudden "Pop" feeling
  • Joint line pain
  • Swelling & Stiffness
  • Catching or Locking

Repair vs. Removal

Treatment depends on the type, size, and location of the tear. At Trinay, we prioritize Meniscus Repair over removing the tissue.

Feature Meniscus Repair Partial Meniscectomy
Goal Stitch tear back together Remove damaged tissue
Weight Bearing Restricted for 4-6 weeks Immediate (as tolerated)
Long-term Health Excellent (Low arthritis risk) Increased risk of arthritis

Meniscus FAQs

Can I walk immediately after surgery?

If we remove the torn piece (menisectomy), yes. If we repair it, you may need crutches for 4-6 weeks to protect the healing tissue.

Why does my knee click or catch?

A torn piece of meniscus can get caught in the joint mechanism, causing clicking, pain, or temporary locking of the knee.
